Alright, I need some real insight here because I might have just made a very expensive mistake.

I pulled the instrument cluster from my 2018 Nissan Armada SL to send it off for repair (because, of course, it had the infamous LED backlighting issue). I figured, no big deal! It's just a display, right? The car should still run just fine.

Well… technically, I wasn't wrong. Hit the start button, and the engine fired right up. But here's where things get weird. The car wouldn't shut off with a simple press of the button. I had to hold it down to force a shutdown. Odd, but whatever.

I drove off thinking all was good… until about four miles down the road when the entire thing died in the middle of a busy intersection. No warning, no sputtering—just dead. Had to get it towed home.

After digging around, it seems like the vehicle stopped using the alternator entirely and ran off battery power until it had nothing left. Is the cluster somehow tied into the charging system? That seems insane, but here we are.

I've seen talk about people clipping a wire to bypass certain charging issues. Does anyone know if that would work in this case? Or am I just stuck waiting until the cluster is back?

Would love to hear from anyone who's dealt with something like this before.

Did I completely mess up here, or is there a workaround?

a weird issue but its a Nissan so theres that. anyway your cluster should be done in a few days so wait it out and see if that the problem if not then the bypass should work its usually grounding the alternator differently or connecting to a specific wire. try to find someone thats done this before or find a diagram and we'll see what we can do. haven't worked on a lot of modern nissans so i cant give you a specific answer to this
